World class city travel comes to town

BLL to buy new 100 new Volvo buses
Soon Bhopalites will get rid of troublesome mini bus travel, as they are going to switch to the brand new luxurious Volvo city buses which are already serving in Banglore and Chennai. If all goes right the municipal corporation will buy 100 new buses for the BCCL (Bhopal City Link Limited) which is suffering from shortage of buses.
BMC is going to send a proposal to the central govt through the state govt to buy these buses under JNNURM (Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission), said Mayor Sunil Sood.
On Tuesday the 17th February, BCCL’s C.E.O Kamal Nagar saw a test run of the Volvo buses around Roshanpura square. The swanky red buses caught everybody’s eyes on the streets of Bhopal. They looked like models cat walking the ramp, the traffic and the people on the footpaths stood still to have a second look of the swanky red bus. He looked very satisfied from the bus and told Vikalp that they will be run on all the 11 routes of BRTS.
Out of the 100 buses, 25 buses are going to be low floor air conditioned. These luxurious buses will have a double charge as compared to the normal ones and they would be run on special routes. The buses cost around 70 lacs, the cost will be divided in the ratio of 50:30:20 between the Union Urban Development Ministry, the bus operator and the state govt. BMC plans to stretch the fleet of these buses up to 250 in the next few years, so that the people of Bhopal may experience world class commuting in their city
