Bachna Ae Haseeno

Once Aditya Chopra has done patting his back and reminding us that he’s the guy behind DDLJ and once you get back into the habit of not looking for a reference to a Yash Raj film, the story begins to emerge. The film is akin to today’s metro youth’s real life stories where commitment phobia is epidemic, confront some or the other kind of non-serious love in various ages of their life but the film depicts it in an illusory manner.
The film script is about a young flirtatious man who experiences getting genuine love from girls in different phases of his life in different ages and he couldn’t consider them to be more than unintended meet up and he takes their emotions for granted .Then he meets somebody who breaks his heart and he feels pain in love.
The story starts as a boy Raj(Ranbeer) gets nostalgic and remembers his past — to flashback in Switzerland, a beautiful place; the first girl whom he met was Mahi. She really loved him but he did not find her to be his ultimate destination and they separated .Then after six years, Raj met another girl in his apartment as a grown up, in above 20s, in Mumbai and third he met in Australia, for whom Raj is ready to do anything but she is not ready to soften for Raj.
The women, each in their own right have a whole range of emotions to play around with and do pretty good justice to them too. Interestingly though, the character arc for each one of them is such that each one has to play smitten, confident, fun-loving, hurt, vengeful, shrewd at some point or the other and they all have the same way of expressing these emotions. So, an indignant Minissha looks exactly like the indignant Bipasha or the attitude that Bipasha throws around feels very similar to the attitude Deepika is wearing. Almost as if, the briefing they were given related to only one character. And yet the characters are all different.
For one, the structure of the story is too episodic. Granted the chapter-like feel is intentional but it cut the movie too sharply into 20-25 minute pieces. Individually, these pieces don’t always work either. The first two pieces in fact, feel like a set-up for the actual show.
The music of the film is good and the choreographer must have really worked hard to make these actors dance. The shoot locations are striking and the actresses are also looking gorgeous. The wardrobes and make-up of all the stars is made attractive.
The script has nothing more than the three love stories. The script gets predictable but the audience waits to watch the depiction with no scope. Bips looked matured when compared to Ranbir but hers was the best performance acting wise, the other two ladies in the film are not that impressive. Chemistry of Deepika and Ranbir was as expected, and Deepika looked awsome, she is the future for sure. Ultimately, the climax kills the otherwise decent plot. It’s rushed and thus dissatisfying
All in all the movie is enjoyable and value for money.
